And home for the Netherlanders and Brits

Booking in at the Rosslare Harbour Ferry Terminal.

On board but parked on a steep incline. Chocks are needed to prevented slippage!

The two yellow big brother trucks were there to push the little ones if required!

Three Wheels on my Wagon and.............

Jim spotted the front tyre had a particularly low profile and Terry found a large shard of glass.
Result: a flat

The great thing about travelling with fellow Lancia enthusiasts is that someone is bound to have the right tools. Thanks to Dave and Owen (above) who assisted in a quick (ish) repair.

Driving is also about socialising!!

The Saturday BBQ at Darglan Golf Course.

Saturday 18th April - Jim's Education Continues

Jim remains unimpressed but Terry continues to get very excited about........

........its incredible that you can get a front wheel drive transverse V8 of this size into a Lancia.

Its all in the badging! The V8 is a Ferrari engine in a Thema 8:32.

Thursday 16th April - Part 4 - Last Night at the Lake Hotel

No sunset but at least the lights on the promontory were switched on to make the view very attractive in the evening light.

Wherever two Montes get together bonnets will rise!

Thursday 16th April - Part 3 - The World Famous Dick Mack's Pub

Dick Mack's is probably the most famous pub in Dingle. Located on Green Street opposite the Church, outside you will see a Hollywood style pavement - star slabs with the names of the famous people who have visited the pub, such as Julia Roberts, Sean Connery and Robert Mitchum and now the Monte Gang including our host Kim Roberts who can be seen in the snug!

A must have here - a glass of Guiness.

Thursday 16th April - Part 2 - Now You Know Where You Are

There is no getting lost in Ireland when the directions are as clear as this!

Thursday 16th April - Part 1 - Way Out West

Heading out through the Dingle Peninsula Team Lancia went just about as far as you can go. Having tackled the Conor Pass in low cloud with very limited visibility and down into Dingle itself the lack of rain and cloud made it just about impossible not to take in the extra miles to see the view at Slea Head.

Wednesday 15th April - Part 6 - The Line Up at the Top of the Mountain

Lancias all - Fulvia, Beta Spider, Montecarlo, Scorpion, Thema.

Wednesday 15th April - Part 5 - Education - its more than a pretty yellow box!

A photograph of the V4 Lancia Fluvia 1.6 HF owned by Kim Roberts.

Terry took the opportunity to educate Jim on the beauties and finer points of the compact narrow V4. Kim and Terry explained that the design of the engine dated from the 1960s and the power output was exceptional for its day winning many world rallies and championships. The engine was 'canted' in the bay to keep the bonnet low with front wheel drive through a five speed gear box and transaxle.

Wednesday 15th April - Part 3 - Mascots!

The boys get to know each other and do some good for international relations - for Ireland, England and the Netherlands.

Wednesday 15th April - Part 2 - Kim Leads the Way

Kim and Peter in their Fluvia are keen to demonstrate the superior handling and speed and despite the rain often leave the rest of us behind.

Wednesday 15th April - Part 1 - Heading for the Clouds

Setting off on the first day proper of our jaunt with the other Lancia enthusiasts. Wipers wiping and Terry with a face set for a day's serious driving.

The weather has been true to the local forecast with light rain at low level and the promise of heavy rain up in the mountains with low cloud.

Tuesday 14th April - Storms

Storms dogged us the whole way up from Cork, but nevertheless the intrepid travellers managed about half the journey with the "lid" off. But eventually the rain became so heavy that we had to stop and put the "lid" back on.
On arrival and before unpacking we took a stroll out to the shores of the lake and took a few photographs of the dramatic scenery with the storm clouds continuing to roll in.

Arrival at the Lake Hotel near Killarney - Tuesday 14th April

An aerial view of the Lake Hotel (in Summer) but this such a good photograph to show the setting and then the hotel taken today from the shore of the lake itself.

Landfall in Ireland - Monday 13th April

Oh and by the way Charlie has come too. Our ferry is in the background returning to England oops I mean Wales!

Tuesday, 7 April 2009

The journey starts on Monday 13th April in England, of course, but land fall in Ireland is through the port of Rosslare, then we drive on Tuesday via Cork to Killarney on the west coast.

Wednesday and Thursday will be spent touring around the Ring of Kerry before heading off back to the east and Wicklow for a get together with the Lancia Club of Ireland, the Gala Dinner and Annual Rally (spit & polish) event on Sunday 19th April.
